15 May German workers protest in front of the European Parliament
As noted last Tuesday German steelworkers, the result of unfair Chinese competition is the death of the European steel industry. “China produces steel with public funding, well below production costs and regardless of the environment and safety at work”, said one worker.
In fact, MEPs are part of a discussion of the process for changing the status of China in the World Trade Organization. MEP Philippe Lamberts said “Look what is happening in the Chinese steel sector. Beijing decides to reduce its production capacity and it does, that’s not a market economy, not market forces that move the Chinese economy. ”
In 2001 the Asian giant entered the World Trade Organization and at the end of this year the deadline in which the members of this body to determine China as a market economy.
